Bankrupt trucking company Yellow reveals Wisconsin job cuts
MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Embattled trucking company Yellow Corporation revealed the number of layoffs that have happened in Wisconsin. While the company cut jobs all over the state, the hardest hit areas were in Winnebago and Milwaukee counties, the Dept. of Workforce Development website showed.

The layoffs were reported to the state labor agency on Tuesday, according to DWD’s list of new job cuts. Yellow stated the cuts had occurred approximately two weeks earlier, toward the end of July.

Oak Creek and Neenah both saw job losses in the mid-eighties, the company reported, and a total of 46 positions were cut in Tomah. In south-central Wisconsin, nearly a dozen jobs were lost between Madison and Portage. In all, Yellow eliminated 261 jobs in Wisconsin...

City OKs Purchase Agreement For Oakview Business Park Land

The Oak Creek Common Council approved a purchase sale agreement Tuesday for land in pursuit of the right manufacturing development.

OAK CREEK, WI — The City of Oak Creek Common Council adopted resolutions on Tuesday that approve the purchase sale agreements for two large plots of land in Oak Creek that could be used as the city chooses down the road.

Wingspan Development Group closes $11.7 million to continue multifamily growth in Wisconsin, Florida
Wingspan Development Group has closed its WDG GP Fund to further expand its multifamily development business. The WDG GP Fund anticipates a 15 percent to 20 percent-plus annual return over five years.

The $11.7 million fund will participate in the equity of three projects, including Niche at North Hyde Park near the University of Tampa; HUB13 in Oak Creek, Wisconsin; and The Ruby at Brookfield Square in Brookfield, Wisconsin. The fund expects to deploy all its capital into these projects during the next 30 to 60 days. Wingspan currently has more than $200 million in multifamily projects under development across several Chicago suburbs, Southeast Wisconsin and Central Florida.

A `high-end` luxury 218-unit multifamily development could come to Oak Creek
A 218-unit, 10-building luxury multifamily development could be coming to Oak Creek.

The city’s common council reviewed a concept presented by David Decker of Decker Properties at its Sept. 7 meeting for the property at 8100 and 8146 S. 27th St. and 8100 S. Orchard Way.

The council unanimously approved an ordinance to rezone the parcel from the current A1 Agricultural and B4 Highway Business to RM1 Multifamily with a planned unit development.

WEDC: Connecting workers with jobs in southeast Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE, WI. JULY 6, 2021 –The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) is assisting a pilot program to help workers fill in the “last mile” between public transit and their jobs in the Milwaukee area.  

WEDC is providing $31,700 to the Regional Transit Leadership Council (RTLC) to develop a plan, which will be completed by the spring of 2022, to bring last mile service on a pilot basis to Brookfield/New Berlin and Franklin/Oak Creek.

Wingspan, BCDC Break Ground on Wisconsin Community

The property in Oak Creek is slated for completion by fall 2022.

Wingspan Development Group and Batson-Cook Development Co. have started construction on its 300-unit community south of downtown Milwaukee.

The joint venture expects to deliver the first units of its community, Hub13, by the end of 2021 and to complete the project in fall 2022.

The garden-style community will have its units spread across nine two- and three-story buildings that offer studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom floorplans ranging in size from 582 to 1,380 square feet. Hub13’s amenities will include a fitness center, yoga studio, clubhouse, pool, dog park and coworking offices. Residents will also be able to access their units and the amenities through their mobile phones with the community’s technology and safety system.

Stella & Chewy’s to expand Oak Creek facility, add 245 jobs

OAK CREEK — Premium dog food company Stella & Chewy’s LLC is planning a $67.7 million project that will expand its facility in Oak Creek and is expected to create 245 jobs during the next three years.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation has authorized up to $2 million in state income tax credits over the next three years to support the expansion.

Ken Notes: WEDC is in at about 8K per job. I like this number and it is in tax credits not up front investment which I also like, no jobs no credits.

I still wish we had a global policy for every new job at an established pay and benefits level. As it stands, we give select new and expanding companies credits, but others offering the same jobs and benefits get nothing. In my thinking a new job is a new job regardless if it is one or one hundred...

Oak Creek plans neighborhood with 648 homes, rentals for brownfield site
Milwaukee developer F Street Group is rolling out a plan to turn a 66-acre brownfield site on Lake Michigan into a residential neighborhood with more than 600 housing units in Oak Creek.

The project, called Lakeshore Commons, will mark the culmination of years of cleanup work at the city’s formerly industrialized lakefront area.

Oak Creek Mayor Dan Bukiewicz said F Street Group and the Milwaukee architect Rinka are planning to build 648 housing units — a mix of apartments and single-family homes — over the next decade. Infrastructure work could begin as soon as mid-2021 on the project’s first phase, a 36-acre site that could have 300 housing units...

Amazon Begins Hiring In Oak Creek

The four-story, 2.6 million square foot Amazon distribution center is located in the Ryan Business Park in Oak Creek.

OAK CREEK, WI — Amazon is now starting to hire 1,500 people for its distribution center in Oak Creek.

"Amazon is currently hiring for management positions at our new Oak Creek fulfillment center, and we will be hiring for associates and specialists soon," said Kirsten Wenker, an Amazon spokesperson in a JSOnline report.

Officials in Oak Creek finalized a deal in November 2018 to bring the $200 million Amazon fulfillment center to the city with the promise of 1,500 new full-time jobs by the end of 2021.

Pet food maker Stella & Chewy’s plans to add nearly 140,000 square feet of space to its Oak Creek headquarters and add 100 jobs over the next three years.

The Oak Creek Plan Commission approved the project at its meeting Tuesday.

Developer has similar projects in Chicago area

A 101,200-square-foot, two-story indoor sports facility is being proposed at the northeast corner of Drexel Avenue and Interstate 94 in Oak Creek.

According to city documents, the building would provide indoor sports and training facilities that cater to soccer, baseball, football, lacrosse and cheerleading. It will also offer before- and after-school activities, a full-service daycare and availability for events such as parties and tournaments.

Wisconsin Dells developer eyes hotel, conference center next to Ikea in Oak Creek

A hotel and conference center development could be in the works on land Northwestern Mutual controls south of the Ikea store in Oak Creek.

Oak Creek’s Common Council on Tuesday will consider a development agreement with an affiliate of Wisconsin Dells hotel operator Stand Rock Hospitality for that land. WEDC awards $7.5 million in tax credits to Amazon for Wisconsin projects

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. has awarded up to $7.5 million in tax credits to Amazon.com for job creation and capital investment for any investments Amazon makes in Wisconsin, including the company’s new $200 million Oak Creek distribution center.

The actual amount of credits the company will receive is contingent on the number of jobs created and the amount of capital investment the company makes through 2024, WEDC said Monday. All tax credits are “pay as you grow,” which means the company must create the jobs and invest the capital before it can receive any credits...

NHI Announces New $25.35 Million Development Project in Wisconsin
National Health Investors, Inc. (NHI) has entered into an agreement to finance the development of a 144-bed skilled nursing facility in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, near Milwaukee, for a commitment of $25,350,000 with a 9.5% initial yield. The yield earned during construction will be capitalized into NHI’s investment. The initial funding under the commitment totaled $4,700,000 and construction is underway and expected to be completed in the 2 nd quarter of 2020. A 12-year lease term begins post-construction with two 10-year renewals and a 2.0% annual escalator. In addition, there is a $2,000,000 earn out based on the operator meeting certain operating metrics in 2024 and 2025. Stella and Chewy’s expands in Wisconsin

Stella and Chewy’s, a natural pet food manufacturer, is planning an expansion of its Oak Creek facility and headquarters, which is expected to produce $30 million in capital investment over the next three years and create 82 new jobs for the Milwaukee area according to an announcement made by Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker on Oct. 23, 2018. Amazon planning distribution center in Oak Creek

Would bring more than 1,000 jobs to city

Online retail giant Amazon is planning to build a 2.5 million-square-foot, four-story warehouse and distribution facility that would bring more than 1,000 jobs to Oak Creek, according to sources.

The project, being called “Project Arrow,” would be built in the Ryan Business Park, which is being developed by Pewaukee-based Capstone Quadrangle and Fox Point-based General Capital Group southeast of South 13th Street and West Ryan Road, just east of I-94.

Amazon’s logo has a large, curved arrow.

Project Arrow consists of the “development of and construction of a commercial warehouse and distribution facility serving as an internet retail fulfillment center,” according to plans submitted by Brookfield-based Pinnacle Engineering Group to the state....

IKEA Oak Creek near completion, city officials hope more development will follow

Setup at the IKEA store in Oak Creek, which will be the furniture retailer`s first store in Wisconsin, remains on track ahead of the May 16 grand opening.

Store manager Samantha Gravina showed TODAY`S TMJ4 around the more than 290,000 square foot facility Tuesday afternoon. 

Once through the main entrance, shoppers will first notice a series of room displays showing what the furniture for sale looks like in different room settings. 

"You can feel what it might look like in your home, and be inspired," Gravina said. 

Gravina said many of the room displays are nearing completion.

Construction Begins on Wisconsin FedEx Truck Terminal Opposed by Nearby Residents

Construction is beginning in Oak Creek, Wisc., on a huge FedEx truck terminal opposed by nearby residents.

An affiliate of Lexington, Ky.-based Setzer Properties has purchased the 48.6-acre development site, at 500 Opus Drive, from Opus Development Co. for $2.35 million, according to state real estate records posted Sept. 18.

Setzer Properties has been awarded the contract to develop the building, according to the company. It is scheduled to be completed in winter 2018.

Soda maker Black Bear Bottling to close permanently

Milwaukee-area soda company Black Bear Bottling Group LLC will close permanently, the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development announced Wednesday.

The company at 2025 S. Branch Blvd. in Oak Creek will cease operations on Sept. 15, affecting about 76 workers, according to the department.

Plans proceed for Wisconsin IKEA store expected in summer 2018

OAK CREEK, Wis. - Ikea store leaders said the plan to put an Ikea in Oak Creek next year is on track.

Home furnishing retailer Ikea said in a news release Wednesday that it chose Pepper Construction to manage the development project. 

The store in Oak Creek will feature 50 inspirational room settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area, and a 300-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties, like meatballs with lingonberries, as well as American dishes. Other family-friendly features include a Children`s IKEA area in the showroom, baby care rooms and play areas throughout the store.

MILWAUKEE, WI — The Milwaukee Business Journal has named the owners of Sendik`s Food Markets as its 2016 Executives of the Year and Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi as Municipal Executive of the Year. The group is honored for their key roles in continuing the economic development boom in southeastern Wisconsin.

Sendik’s owners and siblings Ted Balistreri, Nick Balistreri, Patrick Balistreri and Margaret Harris have taken a family-owned business that originally started as a fruit and vegetable stand and turned it into a major competitor in the Milwaukee-area grocery store market, the Business Journal says.

Marriott Development to build 120,000-square-foot spec industrial building in Milwaukee market

Marriott Development of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, will be launching a 120,003-square-foot speculative industrial building in 2017 in the OakView Business Park in Oak Creek, Wisconsin.

The 220-acre park is located at Howell Avenue and Oakwood Road in one of the fastest growing communities in the state of Wisconsin. Marriott has hired the Cushman & Wakefield|Boerke industrial Team of Jeff Hoffman and Chad Vande Zande as the exclusive leasing firm for the assignment, and MSI General of Nashotah, Wisconsin, as the design-build contractor.

The OakView Business Park is located within one of the most dynamic industrial markets in southeast Wisconsin. The Mitchell Airport market encompasses roughly 21 million square feet and is currently sitting at a cycle low vacancy rate of 2.79 percent. Aurora Health Care plans $17 million clinic in Oak Creek

Aurora Health Care is planning to build a $17 million, 30,000-square-foot health center at Ryan Road and Howell Avenue in Oak Creek.

The urgent care clinic would be built at 200-228 E. Ryan Road and 9444-9454 S. Howell Ave. The site currently houses an existing three-story building and two smaller adjacent structures. Aurora plans to demolish the two smaller buildings along Howell Avenue and renovate the larger, three-story building to suit the needs of the future clinic, according to documents submitted to the city...

Somerstone gets OK to buy 23 acres across I-94 from Ikea site in Oak Creek

Brookfield-based developer Somerstone LLC has received approval from a judge to purchase 23 acres of land across Interstate 94 from Ikea’s future home in Oak Creek for $4.4 million from a court-appointed receiver.

Somerstone was the only buyer to come forward with a bid on the property. On Wednesday, a motion hearing was held in Milwaukee County Circuit Court on the bid and Judge John DiMotto granted the sale....

Proposed Oak Creek senior living operator eyeing other locations in Milwaukee area

The Waters Senior Living development at Drexel Town Square in Oak Creek could be the first of many in the Milwaukee-area for the Minnesota-based senior living apartment developer.

This week, the city of Oak Creek approved selling 2.5 acres of land to Minnetonka, Minnesota-based The Waters Senior Living, so the company could build a senior living facility with up to 140 apartments. The site is across the street from Oak Creek’s new city hall at 8000 S. Market St.

Brian Schack, associate developer at The Waters, said the company, which has developed and operates seven senior communities in the Twin Cities metro area and Rochester, Minnesota, has been looking at the Milwaukee area for more than a year.

He said the tenant mix in Drexel Town Square made Oak Creek the perfect fit.

Man-made islands to cleanse pollutants from pond

MILWAUKEE -- They look like rafts that might have been launched by children intending to float away the summer.

But the large rafts towed onto an Oak Creek storm-water pond this week are the aquatic equivalent of a Roomba, the vacuum-cleaning robot that works on its own.

Three artificial islands, loaded with native wetland plants, are floating in one pond at Emerald Preserve off S. 6th St., where they will work year-round to cleanse storm water of nutrients and other pollutants, officials said...

Firehouse Subs plans a dozen more southeastern Wisconsin locations

Since opening its first Wisconsin sub shop in 2012, Firehouse Subs has been red hot, prompting the Jacksonville, Florida, company to plan at least a dozen more stores in the market over the next three years.

The fast casual chain will open a location in the White Stone Station retail development in Menomonee Falls and in Brown Deer this year. Restaurants are also planned in Pewaukee, Delafield, West Allis, Greenfield, New Berlin, Grafton, West Bend, Oak Creek and two in Waukesha.
