Business inquiries to WEDC over Evers` order top 7,000


The state of Wisconsin by end of day Wednesday had received about 7,400 calls and online inquiries from Wisconsin companies, including 2,700 online messages asking whether they can continue operating during the COVID-19 stay-at-home order. 

In issuing his stay at home order on Tuesday, Gov. Tony Evers included broad exemptions to allow “essential” businesses to keep their doors open. Adopting language used by many states, Evers’ order specifically mentions some businesses as essential, such as grocery stores, gas stations and hardware stores. Other language is less specific, such as manufacturing and distribution for “critical products and industries.”..
