State shifts site for proposed $120 million Wisconsin Historical Society museum


In a surprise shift, the state is moving the preferred site of the proposed $120 million, 100,000-square-foot Wisconsin Historical Society museum from the top of State Street to a full block that now features a massive, half-century-old state office building near Capitol Square.

The new site, which holds the four-story, 271,493-square-foot General Executive Facility, or GEF 1, is bounded by the 200 blocks of East Washington Avenue and East Main Street, and 10 blocks of South Butler and Webster streets....

Ken Notes: Really, I`m confused... the Historical Society often asks for the preservation of properties in the State and Madison -- now they have 120 Million to spend and they want a shiny new building. I think they would be the perfect candidate for the adaptive reuse of an existing building... I am NOT advocating here for the preservation of GEF 1 just that the Society look for a building worth preserving. If you want a real cool state property why not look at the Wilson Street State Human Services Building, I have a hotel that would partner with you tomorrow...
