WI Restaurants Have Recovered, But Employment Still Down

Sales tax revenue data shows that Wisconsin bars and restaurants have recovered, but employment still lags in the sector.

WISCONSIN — Employment and revenue from Wisconsin bars and restaurants has recovered considerably since the coronavirus pandemic started in April 2020, but employment in the sector still lags below levels before the pandemic.

Some 199,900 Wisconsinites were employed in the bar and restaurant industry in August 2021, data from the Wisconsin Policy Forum showed. Employment in the sector is still down by nearly 20,000 workers, or 8.8 percent, compared to August 2020...
