Wisconsin’s exporting resources help build international business ties, hone export strategies


Ninety-six percent of the world’s population lives outside of the U.S., and one billion people are expected to join the global middle class in the next decade. Yet, in a recent survey of Milwaukee-area CEOs, only 41 percent saw global engagement as crucial to the region’s economy.

Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) works alongside statewide partners to help companies, large and small, find viable opportunities to reach international markets. More than 8,500 companies in the state are finding success around the world, and 88 percent of those are small or mid-sized firms. For companies that are changing the way they think about their business, and looking to explore international growth opportunities, there are a variety of statewide programs available to help navigate global markets.

Ken Notes: Global is huge, but Wisconsin has a lot to offer in the State and regionally. We do get away from our core businesses when we shift too much of our focus on the global market. Lets take beer for example, if we promote our product regionally the world may take notice, but if we promote our beer globally we may miss the real market closer to home. New Glarus sells almost no beer in the Mid East or China. It is a balancing act.
