Assembly committee passes WEDC fraud bill; Democrats raise concerns about chilling effect


Defrauding the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. would be a felony under a bill approved by an Assembly committee Wednesday.

The bill would make defrauding the agency a Class E felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison and five years of extended supervision and a $50,000 fine. Also, anyone who commits fraud against WEDC would be ineligible for state assistance for seven years and WEDC could also bring a civil lawsuit to recoup any lost money...

Ken Notes: This is feel good legislation, companies are not defrauding WEDC they are suggesting they will be successful. This is what they should do, and yet more than half will fail and this is OK as well. Apple could have easily been WANG or Digital Equipment Corporation - WE JUST DO NOT KNOW.
