Homeowners and Village Of Mount Pleasant reach a deal in federal lawsuits

The village of Mount Pleasant has settled the last eminent domain lawsuit filed in 2018 by homeowners whose land was taken by the municipality to make room for the Foxconn development.

Rodney and Catherine Jensen have agreed to relocate from their home at 3301 Highway 41, four years after the village acquired the 2.92 acres of property through the eminent domain process....

Ken Notes: As a former Mayor, I learned early that eminent domain is a best ugly. I always tried to get the developer to get the land. I also liked creative options like actual trades for new properties so the homeowner knew exactly what they were getting. It is an important tool but we need to be clear that the property is truly needed and owners are made whole, not rich,,,
