Appleton to receive $25 Million federal grant for transit project


APPLETON, Wis. (WBAY) - The City of Appleton announced Monday they’re receiving a $25 million grant through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program.

The grant will replace the current Transit Center to include additional affordable housing. The proposed project, classified as an Urban Capital Project, is slated to cost $26.8 million, with $25 million requested through the 2024 RAISE Funds.

The Transit Center project aims to improve regional connectivity and support affordable housing initiatives through a joint development agreement with a private developer. The Appleton Common Council has proactively set aside $1.8 million in ARPA funding to support the affordable housing development component of the project.

The U.S. Department of Transportation has published a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for $1.5 billion in grant funding through the 2024 RAISE program, which supports projects with substantial local or regional impact...
