GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A new housing development on Green Bay’s east side ceremonially began Tuesday. The development is being built on 26 acres of land donated by JBS Foods. The company donated the land and $500,000 to the city in 2021. The land is across the street from JBS’ facility on Lime Kiln Road. The project will provide about 200 units, which will include apartments and townhomes. “Most people in Green Bay, about 60-70%, fall on something called ALICE, which is a term that essentially means that you are working, but your income doesn’t always meet the cost of living in this neighborhood. This neighborhood is meant to make sure that whether you work or not, have income restrictions or benefits, that you will be able to find housing,” said Amaad Rivera-Wagner, chief of staff for Green Bay Mayor Erich Genrich’s and the JBS project manager. Wisconsin Department of Administration secretary Kathy Blumenfeld joined city officials for the groundbreaking ceremony.
