$4 million grant supports forest products research at University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point


STEVENS POINT – A $4 million grant from the state’s economic development agency is supporting innovation in forest product development at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point`s Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology.

WIST received the grant in March after the institute’s application for a federal grant made it to a final round but was not selected. Gov. Tony Evers and Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation leaders saw the value of the institute’s work and decided to award the grant from the state’s funds.

“As a multi-billion-dollar industry that employs more than 60,000 Wisconsinites, there’s no doubt that our paper and forest products sector is a key industry that contributes mightily to our state’s economic success,” Evers said in an Oct. 31 news release. “I’m incredibly proud of our continued efforts to invest in and bolster this critical part of Wisconsin’s proud heritage."...
